Would you care for a bowl of ice cream soup?

JUST looking for a little bit of consolation here. I haven't been myself lately. Well, I take that back. I've been myself, only a hare nuttier--yes, it's possible.

Some examples: after enjoying some "cookies and cream" ice cream last night, I placed the huge, 3/4-full bucket of ice cream ON TOP of the fridge--not in it, but on it. When I went into the kitchen this morning, I saw the bucket of melted goop ON TOP of the fridge and nearly wept, instantly thinking of what I would do to nurse my sweets addiction (pillsbury cookie dough is 2 for $5 right now, thankfully, so I'm in the clear). And, somewhere in between the checkout at Lowe's and my car, I lost the box of fireplace hooks (for stockings). I mean, we looked everywhere--under the car, back at the checkout, in our pants! So, we won't be hanging stockings this year (and also because the red fabrics clash which is an issue for my graphic designer husband). I guess this is ok since Wilder won't really need Santa's assistance with all the doting he receives from his grandparents.

So, I was wondering if I'm the only one on this planet who goes into the grocery store with the sole mission of purchasing milk only to leave it on the bottom rack of the cart (yes, this has happened), or if I'm the only one who spends hours searching for my sunglasses only to look in the mirror and see they're on my head.

Someone rescue me from this plight.

And, please just smile nicely when you realize I mislabeled your Christmas present.

History lesson

WHEN we were in Chanute, my hometown, for Thanksgiving with Momma and Daddy, Shawn and I decided to take a walk downtown. We knew it would be abandoned since it was a holiday, and were excited to get out and do some exploring. We dug out Sissy's stroller (yes, from 1986!), bundled Wilder up, grabbed the camera, then left. I think we were gone about an hour and a half, walking alleyways, crossing the railroad, window snooping... Though I don't think we'll ever hunker down in a small town again, I was pleasantly reminded that Chanute has its charms!

Original Martin and Osa Johnson Museum

My senior pic--just kidding!
If memory serves me, this was a motel, now a museum (at one time it was a brothel, according to legend)
The depot, which houses the Osa and Martin Johnson museum and the public library

Union Pacific caboose (unfortunately, the interior was severely vandalized; that made me sad)

Santy Clause at Bank of Commerce drive-thru (looks vintage; I want him!)
And some shots of our wonderful love baby boy
Workin' the overralls in wintertime
New expression!
Eulogy service for my plant will be held Dec 8th, 2pm, at our house.
Poor thing had to suffer because I was out of town for a week! Hope Marley got fed!

Book-It!

DO you remember Pizza Hut's Book-It program from gradeschool? You know, when you read a book, have your teacher sign a little coupon, then take it to Pizza Hut for a FREE personal pan pizza? I used to love participating in that little incentive program, and I read alot of books because of it. And I really wish there were some program in place, just like that, for adults. I'd be eating lots of free pizza if that were so! For those of you who faithfully follow my blog (thank you!), you'll recall I have read several books the past couple of weeks that need reviewing. So, here goes: -ok, quick note-the reviews will be short because it's hard for me not to give away the plot or the ending or too many details and I don't want to ruin it for anyone:

1) Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger : Chick lit at its best. Everything I was expecting--fun, fun, fun! Juicy. Utterly girly. Believable, relatable characters. Loved the story line---some bits a little unrealistic, but, hey, that's why it's fiction!

2) True Believer by Nicholas Sparks: The story line was a bit of a stretch for my taste, but it takes place in a small town, which I related to. It was also a tad predictable. However, I was still pleased with the ending.

3) Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks: If I'm not mistaken, this was made into a major motion picture (I've not seen it). Very well executed book; the male character expresses himself through writing, which I related to. One caution: you will become emotionally involved and will require a Kleenex box

Anyone have any recommendations for my next book? If not, I may have to read Nights in Rodanthe by, you guessed it, Nicholas Sparks, even though I promised myself I'd see the movie first!

Ye ole college town

MY baby sister, Erin (Sissy!), and her husband, Ryan, have been painstakingly chipping away at their undergraduate careers at Southwest Baptist University (SBU) in Bolivar, MO, for a few years now. Ryan has reached the end of his courses and graduates in December with a degree in Education (Social Studies/History teacher and basketball coach extraordinaire!); Sissy will receive her Biology degree, magna cum laude, in May. To say I'm proud of them would be an understatement.

Shawn and I made our second trip (my third) to their home the weekend of Nov. 21st. We had so much fun that Wilder and I stayed a few days extra, as written in an earlier post. Sissy made roast/potatoes, biscuits/gravy, and taco salad for us--heaven on earth! We hit the antique stores, the guys went to an SBU basketball game, and we got some solid time in on their new, cushy, comfy couch!
Sissy and I also got to go to some fun, girly shops and have lunch at an adorable cafe, The Tea Garden.
Wilder slept well in his pack-n-play at Uncle Ryan and Aunt Erin's house!I think he's looking at his buggy friend-he loves that toy!
Lots of green and it wasn't even St. Patty's day!
Hats and wigs at the antique store (yes, I have on a wig; that's not my new, short hair!)
Cool old TV I wanted to buy! It was only $45!
Us with some Kleenex race car dude
My joy!
Sissies and friends forever! (sissies as in the sister kind, not the woah, I'm a wuss kind!)

And, the 6 inches shorter hair--more manageable with my busy mom schedule!

Bathtime: an adventure!

WILDER has never really minded his baths, and I have always loved giving them to him. The smell of the Johnson's shampoo, his soft pooh bear towel, the splashing--it's heaven! But he has dry, sensitive skin (thank goodness for Eucerin's Aquaphor cream), so I'm limited to bathing him every other day. Can't wait until he'll take baths every day! Enjoy the video (please pardon the length--I don't know how to edit videos...also, watch the volume--there's some embarrassing singing by yours truly!)
